Bahia, according to its Secretariat of Tourism, lives the expectation of a promising summer, with its main tourist areas in the process of opening. In the capital, Salvador , the beaches began to be released last Monday (21), through a series of health protocols, after the reopening of hotels, restaurants, bars, shopping centers and the Mercado Modelo. At the same time, the gradual restoration of the air network opens an important channel for tourists to come to the city. Likewise, other important tourist destinations in the state are experiencing the first movements after the long recess of the pandemic.
“Bahia has all the benefits for tourists who want to be in contact with nature at this moment of reopening,” says the state secretary of Tourism, Fausto Franco. “It has wonderful destinations of sun and beach from north to south and stunning places for the practice of ecotourism, adventure tourism and wine tourism, among other modalities”, he adds.
PRAIA DO FORTE
The opening started in mid-July and peaked on the September 7 holiday. According to data from the Praia do Forte Commercial and Tourism Association – Turisforte, today the location has 100% of its lodging facilities in operation – although with limited capacity, according to the requirements of the protocols – and 90% of the restaurants they have already opened the doors, generally working until 11pm.
“For the summer, the prospects are good, because many people want to travel, but it is important that the safety rules are observed, avoiding crowds and wearing masks”, observes the president of Turisforte, Vitor Hugo Knack.
PORTO SEGURO
Destination had its reopening process started on July 15th, with the hotel industry. From August 1st, restaurants opened and, on August 15th, beach huts. The aerial network was also gradually being recomposed, with the return of Gol and Latam flights from July 11 and, later, Azul flights, closing the month with 48 flights, according to the city’s Culture and Tourism Secretary, Paulo Caesar.
At the end of August, the offer of air frequencies rose to 90, and the expectation for September is to close with 108 flights. For October, the estimate, according to the secretary, is to reach the mark of 180 flights. For October, the reopening of the Water Park and, probably, the Municipal Marine Park of Recife de Fora is also expected.
During the pandemic, the municipality developed the Porto Mais Seguro program, with a set of measures and rules for the resumption and protocols for all segments of tourism. The Porto Mais Seguro seal was also created for establishments such as hotels, bars, restaurants and beach huts, which adopted health safety standards.
“We now hope to overcome this crisis and have the city moving again, with a very high expectation for the summer,” says Paulo César.
According to him, CVC announced this week the return of charter flights in December, with 25 flights per week, of which ten are to Porto Seguro. With an eye on regional tourism, CVC also expanded its product portfolio to 76 new destinations in municipalities close to capitals and large centers, which allow travel by car. The Bahian destinations that made the list were Caraíva, Eunápolis and Barreiras.
ITACARÉ
A surfers paradise on the Cacao Coast, in Itacaré, on September 18, a new decree was issued with gradual reopening measures for tourism, which establishes the occupation of lodging facilities at up to 70% of their capacity. Tourists who travel to the city should check if the accommodation they intend to stay on has the Turismo Seguro Itacaré seal. Free fairs, bars and activities that generate agglomeration, however, remain prohibited.

TINHARÉ ARCHIPELAGO
In the Cairu region, on the Costa do Dendê, where the towns of Morro de São Paulo and Boipeba are located, the partial opening of tourist activities began on September 3, with the means of accommodation, bars and restaurants running at 50%. your ability. The movement on the September 7 holiday was great in the archipelago, with 100% hotel occupancy – within the new standards – in Morro de São Paulo, 80% in Boipeba and between 70% and 80% in Garapuá, according to the secretary de Turismo de Cairu, Diana Farias. “What surprised us was the arrival of many people from other states, such as Amazonas, Rio Grande do Sul and Minais Gerais, when the forecasts were that in the first moments the trend would be regional tourism”, he says.
MUCUGUE
In Chapada Diamantina, the municipality of Mucugê took the lead in resuming. The opening began in stages, at the end of August, within the protocols, the last of which was the means of accommodation and food, with hotels and restaurants operating at 50% of their capacity. The municipality also issued a decree establishing protocols to be followed by the establishments.
Since then, there has been a demand for tourists, mainly from Salvador. On the 7th of September holiday, the inns filled, within the established limits, and there is already good demand for the 12th of October holiday.
MALHA AÉREA
In addition to the return of international flights, with the resumption of operations at Tap Air Portugal, Salvador Airport recorded a 35% increase in the supply of seats this month, compared to the month of August.
Much of the growth is due to the beginning of Gol’s regional flights, which now connect the Bahian capital to six new destinations, in partnership with VoePass: Aracaju, Maceió, Petrolina, Ilhéus, Porto Seguro and Barreiras, in addition to reinforcing connections to Vitória da Conquista.
The company’s weekend frequencies to Salvador will also increase, with more trips on Sundays from Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Vitória, Recife, Campinas, Belo Horizonte and Fortaleza.
Azul flights also become daily in September between destinations operated from Salvador, such as Belo Horizonte, Recife and Campinas. In October, the company resumes flights to Vitória da Conquista six times a week.
Also from next month, the Chilean low-cost airline JetSmart resumes flights between Salvador and Santiago. On November 3, it is Air Europa’s turn to resume connections between Madrid and the Bahian capital.
